Baccarat is one of the simplest casino games, yet it is also quite refined at the same time. The set of possible bets is quite limited, but the game is still rather enticing. Most Bitcoin casinos offer Baccarat, so if you own a certain amount of Bitcoins and you’ll like to try your luck in a game of Baccarat, it won’t be difficult to find an operator which will enable you to do just that.
Baccarat follows a standard set of rules, so it doesn’t matter whether you play it at a Bitcoin casino, or at your local land-based casino. Baccarat is very similar to Punto Banco, in fact, some still consider the two to be two sides of the same coin.
Baccarat is a very simple game. In theory there are two separate card hands, the player’s and the dealer’s (banker’s) hand, but the player doesn’t actually play against the dealer. Instead, the player bets on one of the two hands and then gets paid if the hand they wagered on wins, and loses the wager if the hand they wagered on is weaker than the opposite hand.
A regular 52-card deck is used for Baccarat. Most of the cards have their face value, except for the king, queen, jack and 10 which aren’t valued at all. In Baccarat, players get to see all cards, they are dealt faced up. The cards of the dealer’s hand are dealt first and then the player’s cards. If both hands are tied a third card can be dealt to the dealer, or the player, or in some cases a third card is added to each of the pairs. If the game is still tied after the third card, then it ends in a draw.
There are high hands in Baccarat – 8 and 9 and 9 is stronger than 8. A third card is dealt only to the hand that is lower than 7, whereas if either the player or the banker have a winning card (8 or 9), whereas the other hand is lower, the game is over. Both always stand on 7, regardless of the value of the second hand.
Since the player is the first to receive a card, the third card, always when it should be dealt, is dealt to the player first. And then depending on the value of the player’s hand, it is determined whether the banker should also be dealt a third card.
So, if the player’s third card is an 8 and the banker has 3, then they are to be dealt a third card, whereas if the banker has 2, then they should receive a third card, no matter what is the value of the player’s hand. If the banker has 4, then there will be a third card when the player’s third card is between 2 and 7. In the case when the banker has 5, a third card is in order when the player’s third card is valued between 4 and 7, whereas if the banker has 6, then the third card will be dealt only tin the cases when the player’s third card is either 7 or 6.
Bets and House Edge
As the player is the first to be dealt a card, that gives a significant advantage to the banker. That completely makes sense, as in the early years, the banker was actually played by the house. So, now when it is possible to bet both on the banker and the player, it makes sense to bet on the banker as it gives better winning odds. The casino applies a 5% commission on all banker bets, for a simple reason that the banker is a lot more likely to win.
However, if you calculate the house edge for the banker bet, considering the commission, it is still 1.06%, which is one of the lowest house edge percentages for any bet, including different types of casino games. The player bet carries a higher house edge of 1.24%.
There is another possible bet, the tie bet. While the player and the banker bet both pay 1 to 1, i.e. you will win as much as you have wagered, with the tie bet, you can earn a lot more, as it pays 8 to 1, or in some cases 9 to 1, but on average only 1 in 11 hands end in a tie, which sets the house edge for this bet at 15%. The house edge makes the tie bet a lot less favourable than the player and the banker bets.
In addition to the standard three bets which are available in any Bitcoin Baccarat variant, there are certain Baccarat versions that also include various side bets which can make the gameplay a lot more interesting. Lucky Pairs Baccarat is one of the most interesting side bets, where you bet on whether the two player’s cards, or the two dealer’s cards will be a pair (will feature the same number). The pay-out for this bet is 11 to 1, but bear in mind the house edge is larger than the banker bet and the player bet house edge.
The Dragon Bonus is another popular side bet. Here, in addition to betting on either the player or the dealer, you also bet that your option will win either naturally (without a third card), or that it will win by a large margin, by 4 or more points. The pay-out for this side bet is 30 to 1. Bear in mind that you can win your main bet but lose your Dragon side bet, or you can also win both or lose both bets.
Baccarat Betting Strategies
Players who are interested in making as much money as possible in the long run, usually stick to the banker and player bets and stay away from tie or side bets. In fact, the banker bet is the only bet that makes sense statistically. A player may employ several different Baccarat strategies. Some people choose progressive strategies, where the stake is raised after a loss, whereas other stick to flat wagering, when the wager is the same every hand. The progressive 1-2-3-4 strategy which features increasing the wager after a win is also used by some.
Advantages of Bitcoin Baccarat
Playing Bitcoin Baccarat is no different from playing Bitcoin at a land-based, or an online casino. In fact, playing Bitcoin Baccarat has one advantage. Namely, certain Bitcoin operators use Provably Fair technology, which gives players a chance to see for themselves if the game’s outcome is fair and random. At other casinos, players have to trust the third party certificates, whereas Bitcoin operators give them the chance to see it themselves.
